On the 17th March 2015 Avinity was honoured by a visit from the Pace children’s charity, an organisation which specialises in helping children with cerebral palsy. We welcomed Sam, Alice, Jake and Soraya to a morning of fun activities around the Avinity warehouse.
The morning began with an exciting game of warehouse sweep!
Similarly to supermarket sweep, the children whizzed around the warehouse collecting their items listed on their order forms. Once the children had their items, they were able to see how real orders are shipped out to customers, just like the ones that come to their houses. The children were fantastic in helping scan, pack and post the products; Sam was so good he was even offered a Saturday job!
The morning then led into a forklift demonstration by one of Avinity’s trained warehouse operators; as well as a bubble wrap walk, where the children whooshed up and down strips of bubble wrap popping all the bubbles with their wheelchairs. The children enjoyed this so much they took strips of bubble wrap back to school to show their friends.
The Avinity team were lucky enough to be able to see firsthand the impact the PACE charity has on these amazing children, from Alice’s eye gaze computer to equipment for fun games such as Boccia. The visit really emphasised the remarkable work the PACE charity does, as well as the importance of volunteering and donations.
To coincide with this visit, Avinity released an employee volunteering scheme, which allows all full time employees to take 3 days paid leave to volunteer at their chosen charities. This allows employees the opportunity to show their support to their local communities as well as giving them the chance to become motivated and engaged through learning new skills and meeting new people.
